Here at Nectar Essences, we feel very honored to include this sacred essential oil in our remedies. In our first year of making our ‘DE STRESS’ remedy, we were able to contribute to the planting of 38 of these sacred trees. Our supplier sources this oil from Machalilla Park on Ecuador’s Pacific coast where the wood is ecologically and sustainably harvested and distilled in small quantities.

Our DE STRESS remedy is one of our best sellers and a spritz of it instantly calms the nerves. It is a blend of 15 flower essences (*like rescue remedy) plus palo santo, organic ylang ylang and night-blooming jasmine. Some people comment that they smell a “licorice” scent in “DE STRESS” which comes from the Palo Santo.

Palo Santo or spanish for “holy wood” is a sacred tree from South America. The wood is harvested after the tree has died and burned like an incense stick . It releases the most sweet smelling scent that immediately shifts your vibration. I’ve found that Palo Santo simultaneously grounds my energy and connects me to the divine.

Though several species are known as “palo santo,” the essential oil is produced from Bursera graveolens, a plant from the same family as frankincense, Burseraceae. It is an ethnobotanical medicine. The incas believed all plants had a spirit and the spirit of the palo santo purified and cleansed the air of negative energies. It is widely used as an incense for repelling mosquitoes. The wood is cooked into decoction and taken for fevers, infections, and skin diseases. It is still widely used by shamans of the Andes in curing ceremonies.

I first encountered Palo Santo four years ago when my friends and I met a fellow traveller in Costa Rica who had harvested the wood in Colombia and then carried it through all of South America and then up back to Central America. He was harrassed at every checkpoint and border where officials tried to confiscated the Palo Santo from him. Luckily for us, he was able to bring the wood back to Costa Rica where we experienced it first hand. This very special wood has now become very well-known in North America and it has a very special gift for humanity.
